In late 2006 Ozcon Industries Pty Ltd was approached by a number of Energy Companies comprising of both existing clients and potential new clients with enquires for custom made Perforated Casing. After numerous lengthy discussions to ensure all requested specifications and volumes were captured, Ozcon handed the information over to its Research and Development Department.

In September 2007 an initial working prototype was commenced. Once completed the Perforator was put into production on Trial Runs, with the machine resulting in a success, although some teething problems were encountered. The machine had 15 fixed speed drill heads, with a maximum hole size of 12.7mm. After further testing, areas where this machine had limitations were identified. These restrictions were with the sizes of pipe, and the distribution or pattern of the holes and also the size of holes the machine could drill. It was by far faster and more economical than hand drilling although throughput was reasonably steady. The R&D team continued to tweak and monitor the machine over a six month period.

In September 2008 the design stage of the Ozcon Perforator Mk2 was completed and construction began. Upon completion this machine weighs almost 50 tonnes, is 16m long, 6m high and 8m wide. The Ozcon Perforator Mk2 was designed to process 12m lengths of various size pipes as they rolled straight through the machine. It houses 60 variable speed drill heads, and can drill from 4mm to 26mm holes, although for our industry the most common size is 12.7mm (1/2”). The Ozcon Perforator Mk2 is more environmentally friendly than the prototype as it can apply drill speed at twice the Kilowatts utilizing just less than half the power of its little brother to achieve this. Small production runs are not a problem, as we have short changeover and set up times due to the innovative way the drill collets are designed. It is capable of handling custom designs and we can fabricate to customer specifications.

Although Ozcon Industries has invested over $1.1m into the design and construction of the Ozcon Perforator Mk2 the perforated casing it produces is competitively priced with far shorter lead times than the comparable imported product. Ozcon Industries has met its objective to supply pipe perforated in Australia, with hole patterns designed by Customers for their own conditions. The Ozcon Perforator Mk2 is capable of producing product to meet the requirements of not only the CSM industry but numerous other industries including Geothermal and Water bores.

Ozcon Industries Pty Ltd is logistically well positioned at Dalby in the Surat Basin, and offers Plain, Perforated and Slotted threaded casing of various sizes and lengths with a range of attachments and accessories for the Gas and Oil industry. Ozcon has a fully equipped Machine Shop housing both manual and CNC lathes, capable of producing and reproducing both standard and custom products with precision. In addition to the standardised threads, Ozcon offers a range of Ozcon designed and developed threads either as integral threaded or threaded onto heavy-wall couplings welded onto the casing. In addition to these services the trained staff at Ozcon’s welding and metal fabrication workshops are always ready to meet the challenge whether it be custom metal fabrication, modifications or general repairs.
